I recently had the pleasure of dining at this charming establishment, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. During my first visit here (two years ago) I walked in and was greeted with a warm smile and a cozy, down-home atmosphere. Once I sat down, I noticed that the menu offered a delightful array of classic American comfort food, and I opted for the chicken-fried steak, which was cooked to perfection and served with creamy mashed potatoes and flavorful gravy.
Let me mention their breakfasts first. Now, I'm a waffle girl...can't get enough of waffles. However, the pancakes at Pete's Cafe changed my opinion. They are amazing. Pete's Cafe makes the perfect pancake. The eggs are always prepared perfectly; never under or overcooked. The bacon is good & cooked perfectly - pliable yet crunchy. The potatoes are the best you'll ever taste. So good! Seriously! By the way - when you order the hashbrowns, ask for them to include onions. You won't regret it. I can guarantee that you won't be able to eating them.
During my second and third visit, we visited for breakfast again...and again. My hubby and I visited arrived at 6am on a Sunday morning and half the restaurant was filled already. We ordered pancakes, biscuits, bacon, eggs, grits, and hash browns. Our waiter was super attentive and had our order out very quickly. Once again, everything tasted 100% homemade! The portion sizes were great and the quality of food was superb. My hubby said to be - "This is an old school breakfast. Great food, service, and value. You can't go wrong." I agree with him completely.
Then, about two months later, I was back in town and I stopped in on a Saturday morning. Before being seating, I went to the restroom to wash my hands. As I returned to my table, I saw the best looking plate of Eggs Benedict and extra crispy hash browns. I asked the man/diner if it was as good as it looked and he said "better than I imagines" and that this cafe only serves breakfast on weekends. I immediately sat down and ordered the same thing - Eggs Benedict. They were just as fantastic as they appeared. The eggs were cooked perfectly and hash browns were nice and crispy and brown on both sides. Another outstanding experience.
This is one of those places you you go to when you just won a good down-home me meal for a good price. None of the extras. None of the fluff just good food good service good price family environment. Bottom-line: This place is amazing. Great food, wonderful, courteous service by friendly staff. There are many breakfast restaurants offering all sorts of new age menus, but this place knows how to take things back to the basics offering great food without all the frills and tasteless dishes of the newbies out there. When you're in the town of Farmers Market, this is your one spot to visit for a great meal.
