Sichuan Garden - Fantastic Chinese Dinner in Round Rock, Texas

Writer: Gaspar V.Gaspar V.

If you've never heard of Round Rock, Texas, all you need to know is that many folks call it 'North Austin.' And there are lots of great eateries in Round Rock. But when you're seeking a phenomenal dinner of Asian flair (sushi, Thai, Korean, ramen), consider sampling some place new...and think to yourself - 'An amazing dinner of spectacular Chinese food would hit the spot for me tonight.' Because one of the best spots you can ever find is Sichuan Garden. This stands out as a beacon for those craving authentic Chinese cuisine. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, a harmonious blend of traditional Chinese decor with modern touches. The soft lighting and subtle background music create a cozy ambiance perfect for both intimate dinners and family gatherings.

The menu at Sichuan Garden is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Sichuan province. It features a wide array of dishes that cater to different palates, from the mildly seasoned to the fiery hot. One of the standout appetizers is the Chongqing Chicken Wings. These crispy delights are tossed in a potent mix of dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorns, delivering a mouth-numbing, yet incredibly flavorful experience that sets the tone for the rest of the meal.

For the main course, the Spicy Fish Filet in Hot Chili Oil is an absolute must-try. The dish features tender pieces of fish simmered in a robust broth teeming with dried chilies, garlic, and an array of spices. The heat level is intense but balanced, allowing the delicate flavor of the fish to shine through. For those who prefer something less spicy, the Kung Pao Chicken offers a delightful alternative. This dish is a masterful combination of tender chicken, crunchy peanuts, and vibrant bell peppers, all coated in a savory sauce that strikes the perfect balance between sweet and tangy. The variety of vegetable dishes is equally impressive. The Dry-Fried Green Beans, stir-fried with minced pork and preserved vegetables, are crispy and packed with umami flavor. Another notable mention is the Mapo Tofu, a classic Sichuan dish featuring silky tofu cubes in a spicy and savory sauce, accented by the unique aroma of fermented black beans and Sichuan peppercorns. Both dishes showcase the restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients.

Now, just to clarify my opinion about this spot, there are a few things about this menu that I would highly recommend. Hands down, the best most authentic Sichuan experience you will ever have. This isn't your 'junk take out.' This is close to fine dining, folks. I'm serious. The Peking Duck is the best duck dish I've ever eaten. The Pork Intestine With Pork Blood Cake is my new favorite intestine dish. And you cannot pass up the Dan Dan Noodles or the Cold Bamboo Shoots in Chili Oil. But for your first experience here, consider the following menu items: Shredded pork with garlic sauce, Fish fillet and bean curd in picked chili sauce, Kung pao chicken and Mapo Tofu (mentioned above). During my most recent visit before writing this article, I ordered a kung pao chicken, and my boyfriend ordered a hot garlic Sichuan chicken. They both tasted amazing, but I think the hot garlic Sichuan chicken was a bit better - not too spicy. Anyway, we devoured them both.

Service at Sichuan Garden is exceptional. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready to offer recommendations and explain the intricacies of each dish. Their passion for the cuisine is evident, and they go out of their way to ensure that every dining experience is memorable. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a regular patron, the welcoming nature of the staff makes you feel right at home.

Without question, Sichuan Garden offers fantastic Chinese Dinner in Round Rock, Texas and it lives up to its name by offering a dining experience that is both authentically Sichuan and universally enjoyable.
